Scope
This privacy notice explains the processing of personal data when you use this website, as well as the local storage and reading of the appearance and language preferences you expressly select. It also covers communication that you initiate with CHARUS through the Mail, Message and Book functions or contact details provided on this website.
Website and email hosting
Website and email hosting are provided by Uberspace (Jonas Pasche, Kaiserstr. 15, 55116 Mainz, Germany). CHARUS uses Uberspace as a processor under an agreement on commissioned processing (Auftragsverarbeitung) pursuant to Article 28 GDPR.
When you access the website, Uberspace processes technical connection and request data as necessary to deliver and secure the site. This processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; CHARUS's legitimate interests are the secure, reliable and technically functional provision of the website. Uberspace masks client IP addresses before they are written to the technical webserver logs. Those logs are retained for up to seven days and then deleted.
If you send an email to a CHARUS address provided on this website, Uberspace also processes the email and its contents as the provider of the CHARUS mailbox. CHARUS does not use website or email data for analytics, advertising or visitor profiling.
Mail, messages and booking requests
If you use Mail, the CHARUS email address is revealed locally in your browser. Selecting the revealed address uses a standard mail link that can open the email application configured on your device, if available. The website and the first-party CHARUS Contact service do not receive or transmit the contents of an email you compose there. The email is sent only when you send it from your own email application through your email provider to the CHARUS mailbox.
If you use the Message box, the text you enter is transmitted directly to CHARUS through the first-party CHARUS Contact service hosted by Uberspace and delivered to the CHARUS mailbox. The Message function does not require your name or email address. If you include personal information in the Message, CHARUS processes it as part of your enquiry.
When you select a booking date, the protected first-party CHARUS Contact service checks availability server-side in the CHARUS calendar for the selected time window. Your booking email address, Message content and browser/client IP address are not transmitted to the calendar service as part of this availability check. Only available appointment times derived from the CHARUS calendar's free/busy information are returned to your browser.
When you use Book, the selected date and time, your email address and the current Message text, if present, are transmitted directly to the same first-party Contact service and delivered through Uberspace to the CHARUS mailbox as a booking request. Once the request has been accepted for delivery to CHARUS, the service uses the same booking email address to send a short acknowledgement of receipt in the selected website language. If the request included Message text, the acknowledgement also quotes the same Message so you can see what was received.
The acknowledgement is not a booking confirmation. Successful delivery of the booking request means only that CHARUS received the request. Book does not reserve or confirm the selected time; a booking is confirmed only after confirmation by CHARUS. The website does not create a calendar event or send a calendar invitation.
For security and abuse protection, the first-party Contact service transiently processes technical request data and short-lived pseudonymous rate-limit identifiers. One such identifier is derived from the booking email address solely to limit repeated acknowledgement emails. The service does not log Message content, booking-request content or raw client IP addresses and does not create separate persistent storage for accepted Messages, booking requests or acknowledgement rate limits.
Messages and booking requests are processed under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where this is necessary to perform a contract with you or take pre-contractual measures at your request. Other business enquiries not covered by Article 6(1)(b), and technical abuse protection, are processed under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interests are efficient business communication and secure, reliable operation.
You are not legally or contractually required to provide these data. A Message may be sent without a reply address; without suitable contact details CHARUS cannot reply. A booking request requires the email address and appointment details used in the booking process; without the necessary information CHARUS cannot process it. Information received in the CHARUS mailbox is retained until the matter has been conclusively handled and is then deleted unless statutory retention obligations apply or continued storage is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Preferences, cookies and external services
This website does not use cookies. CHARUS does not use analytics tools, advertising trackers or comparable tracking technologies and does not create visitor profiles.
When you explicitly select the light or dark appearance, the website stores the selected value in your browser's local storage under the key charus-theme. When you explicitly select English or German, it stores the selected value under the key charus-language. The stored values themselves contain only the selected preference and no user or device identifier. They are not used for analytics, marketing or profiling.
The two stored values are read automatically on subsequent page loads to apply the appearance or language that you previously selected. CHARUS stores or changes these values when you select the corresponding appearance or language setting. The values generally remain in your browser's local storage until you select another setting or delete this website's locally stored data.
CHARUS does not request consent for this storage and subsequent reading and relies on Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG.
If no explicit appearance choice is stored, the CHARUS website may read the browser's preferred light or dark color scheme to select the initial appearance. If no explicit language choice is stored, it may read the browser's preferred language to select an initial supported language. These browser-derived defaults are not stored by the CHARUS preference logic as charus-theme or charus-language in local storage unless you subsequently make an explicit selection. The preference logic does not use them for analytics, marketing or profiling.
No external analytics or advertising services, externally hosted fonts, maps or embedded scheduling widgets are loaded.
Your rights
Subject to the applicable statutory conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing. Where processing is automated and based on consent or a contract, you may also have a right to data portability.
Right to object: Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
You may exercise your rights by contacting legal@charus.com. You may also lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority, including the authority at your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement. The supervisory authority responsible for CHARUS in North Rhine-Westphalia is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).
CHARUS does not use automated decision-making or profiling through this website.
